What is a state of WA ID/WDL #? Why do I need it and how do I get it?
This # is the number issued to you by the state of WA that follows you through your licensing process; it becomes your permit # and then your driver’s license #. It is 12 digits long. This number will be in one of the following formats:
1) Starting with the first 5 (five) letters of your last name, ex: LASTNFN123AB
2) Starting with the letters WDL, ex: WDLABCD123YZ.
Some customers already have a WA State ID card (usually obtained for use as ID when traveling out of the country.) If so, the PIC # from that card is the number that we need. (It will also be one of the two formats above)
If you do not have an ID card with this number, you will need to “Pre-Apply” on the state of WA Dept of Licensing website. (There is a blue button on top of the homepage of our website that says “Click HERE to Pre-Apply for a WDL#”). Here is a link as well: https://secure.dol.wa.gov/home/serviceType.aspx# This process takes about 10 minutes.
We will need this number in order for you to qualify to take your DOL Written Test and/or DOL Driving Test.
What type of ID is required to take the tests?
You must have PICTURE ID (passport, license from another country/state, school ID or permit with picture).
Do I need to take both Written and Driving tests to get my license?
Yes. The Written test needs to be passed before you qualify to take your Driving test.
Do you issue the license after I’ve passed both my tests?
No we do not. Only a DOL office can issue a Driver’s License.
Do I need a permit to take my Driving test?
No you do not. We have a “Temporary Authorization to Drive” form that the state allows us to use for your driving test if you do not have a permit or a valid driver’s license from another country.
What if I don’t pass my test the first time?
You can take either test again, there is no waiting period. Each additional Written test is $10 and each additional Drive test is $60.
How long are my test scores valid?
The DOL Written Test score is valid for two years. The DOL Driving Test score is valid for 1 year.
