Testing page – Customer License Next Steps

I have passed my DOL Driving Test!  What’s next?

*** 18 years and older

To qualify for your Driver’s License:

1)  Pass the DOL Written Test *
2)  Pass the DOL Driving Test *
3)  New: If you get your license after Oct 31st, 2026 and you are under age 25: Pass the DOL “Workzone/First Responder Online Course”

** Driving School enters your score directly into your DOL record within 24 hours of your passed test.  This is done electronically, no papers or documents are issued.

When these requirements are met, it’s time to apply for your Driver’s License through the DOL.

If you do NOT have a permit (or your permit does not have your picture on it), you will need to visit a DOL office in person.**  You will need to make an appointment. ** Please see DOL appointment TIPS below.

If you have your picture on your  permit, you can apply for the license by logging into your DOL License eXpress account.**  There is a chance that it will not work online for you, If that is the case, you will need to visit a DOL office instead.  If you have questions as to why the online process is not working, you will need to contact the DOL directly for assistance.

** DOL Appointments TIPS:  Updated 09/14/26

Right now appointments seem to be about 6 weeks out.  Our recommendation is that you grab one that works and then check each day for cancellations.  The DOL has also told us they add same day appointments at 830am each day.  The DOL has told us that certain locations are not accepting walk-ins at this time.  They have not told us which locations, unfortunately.  If you want to try “walking in”, you may be be sent away.

You will need to bring proof of identity for both the student and parent.  If you have any questions about proof of identity, you can find that info on the DOL site (https://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/idproof.html)  or contact the DOL directly for assistance.

** Either way, you will pay the DOL for the Driver’s License. (current prices can be found on the DOL website)
